Blog by Manas Shrestha – China Visit, World Scholar’s Cup

My journey to China for the World Scholar’s Cup, Shenzhen Round, China proved to be both an enriching and memorable experience. The trip commenced with a lengthy and somewhat turbulent flight, after which our first stop was Guangzhou. From there, we traveled by bus to Shenzhen, observing the gradual transformation of the landscape as the city’s modern skyline came into view.

I spent nine days in Shenzhen, engaging with talented scholars from across the globe in intellectually stimulating and competitive events. The academic challenges provided not only a platform to test knowledge and critical thinking but also an opportunity to collaborate and exchange ideas with peers of diverse cultural and educational backgrounds.

Beyond the competition, the exploration of Shenzhen itself added immense value to the experience. Traveling on the city’s metro offered a window into the rhythms of everyday urban life, reflecting Shenzhen’s vibrant energy and rapid pace of development. A particularly memorable experience was the cruise along the coastline near Macau and Hong Kong, where the dazzling skylines and harbors created a breathtaking backdrop.

Our accommodation at Jen Hotel was both comfortable and welcoming, providing much-needed rest after days filled with activities. Equally memorable were the excursions to Sea World and Lianhua Mountain Park. The latter, with its well-maintained hiking trails, panoramic views of the city, and the iconic statue of Deng Xiaoping, stood out as a space where natural beauty, cultural heritage, and historical significance converged.

Altogether, the trip was a remarkable blend of academic engagement, cultural immersion, and personal growth. It fostered not only intellectual development but also lasting friendships and experiences that remain deeply meaningful. Importantly, the journey also helped me to overcome my struggle with motion sickness, making the experience even more transformative.
